NORSE STORY
January 26, 2012 at 4:41 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a commentThe Bank of Kentucky center came alive this past weekend as Northern Kentucky University celebrated its “Norse Story.” With nearly 2,400 fans in attendance, the crowds roared as students, alums, parents and faculty cheered the men’s and women’s basketball teams to victory during the weekend’s homecoming games. The games weren’t all they were cheering for though, because throughout the week NKU celebrated homecoming with all different events at The Bank.

The event’s started Thursday, as students flocked to The Bank to show their NKU pride. Different organizations decorated NKU Viking helmets that incorporated the “Norse Story” theme. Buzzlightyear and Woody danced across the court as the students modeled the hats to the judges and the fans at half time of the women’s basketball game. Student organizations also performed chants they created to cheer on the basketball players as the teams battled Wisconsin-Parkside.The students also anxiously awaited the announcement at half time of the men’s game to hear who won Homecoming Prince and Princess. Molly Doody and Jacob Priddy won the title of homecoming princess and prince.

Homecoming festivities continued to Saturday morning as students and fans tailgated just outside The Bank of Kentucky Center to prepare for the games against Lewis University Flyers. While some fans braved the cold outside, others sought refuge inside as they participated in the alumni chili cook-off, an NKU Homecoming tradition. Around 25 different alumni groups used their best chili recipes to woo the fans and compel them into voting for them to win the taste-test contest.
As the chili contest wound down, the buzz of excitement filled the arena as masses of fans poured in to cheer the teams to victory against the Flyers. The women played an impressive game, winning59-44. This win ranked them 13-4 overall. The winning continued as the men played a suspenseful game against Lewis. After coming back from a rough start, they won 77-66 at the end of the game ranking them at 15-2 overall.

The game wasn’t the only thing making Saturday afternoon anxious. At half time of the men’s game the Homecoming King and Queen were announced. President and Mrs. Vortruba crowned the winners, Jeffrey Weckbach and Brittany Jo Hall.
Homecoming is a spirited tradition each year at NKU where norse fans everywhere eagerly come together at The Bank of Kentucky Center to support NKU athletics and many other aspects of the university.

That is exactly what the Northern Kentucky River Monsters continue to do as they defeated the Eastern Kentucky Drillers this past Saturday by a score of 59-42. Quarterback Jared Lorenzen threw for 5 more touchdowns and also rushed for one touchdown. Willie Idlette came up with 9 catches for a whopping 134 yards and two touchdowns. The Drillers had been the only team to beat Northern Kentucky so far this season, so for the Monsters to come out and play as hard as they did and to get the victory was great. Thanks for everyone who came out to The Bank of Kentucky Center and showed their River Monster spirit. After Saturday’s victory, the River Monsters are now 7-1 and are still in first place of the UIFL.
The next home game for the River Monsters is this Saturday at 7:30 pm, as they take on second place Saginaw Sting(6-2) for the first time this season. Also this Saturday is $1 beer night. Yes, I said it ladies and gentlemen, $1 beer night!
It is also Pink Night at The Bank of Kentucky Center, so fans are encouraged to wear pink and show their support for breast cancer. Also with the purchase of your ticket for Saturday’s game, $1 will go to The Terri Krebs Dream Foundation. Terri Krebs was able to fight off stage-four breast cancer. After being diagnosed in 2001, she was given 9 months to live, but lasted for 9 years. We will also be raffling off autographed items throughout the game as well. All the more reason to come out Saturday night for some great indoor football!
Also this weekend at The Bank of Kentucky Center, on Sunday at 11:00 am 7 Hills Church invites you and your family to be their guest for their Easter Community Celebration. This will be a family friendly service with live music, and a relevent illustrated message from Pastor Marcus Mecum.

Lorenzen for MVP!
April 13, 2011 at 3:40 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a commentJared Lorenzen and the Northern Kentucky River Monsters are continuing to dominate teams all over the league. The River Monsters have not disappointed at all in their inaugural season in the UIFL. Going into this weekend, the River Monsters are 6-1 and are in first place.
This Saturday the River Monsters take on the Eastern Kentucky Drillers, the only team to have defeated them all year. Lorenzen and company will be looking for some pay back and will not hesitate to air it out at The Bank of Kentucky Center. The high flying offense, led by Lorenzen leads the league with 47 touchdowns, while Willie Idlette and Ricardo Lenhart continue to be Lorenzen’s main targets. Maurice Douse has been very effective running the ball for the Monsters this season, as he as found the end zone 8 times. With the most potent offense in the league and defenses having to account for both the run and the pass, the River Monsters are a defensive coordinator’s nightmare.
There are only four more home games at The Bank of Kentucky Center, so don’t miss out on this great opportunity to watch some exciting indoor football! There is something for everyone to enjoy at the game, including inflatable jump-jumps for the kids, The Bait Dance Team, and the official mascot of the River Monsters- Gil E. Monster!
The next home game is this Saturday at 7:30pm with gates opening at 6:30.

Indoor football has come to The Bank of Kentucky Center and along with it came a football gun-slinger named Jared Lorenzen. The River Monsters starting quarterback has been lighting up defenses around the league with their air it out mentality. In the last two games, Lorenzen has thrown for 16 touchdowns and 619 yards. The River Monsters put up a UIFL record 79 points in their home opener on March 18, defeating the Johnstown Generals by a score of 79-21. Lorenzen and company took care of business in their next home game by beating the Canton Cougars by a score of 62-53.
Lorenzen isn’t just a one man show, he has a spectacular supporting cast with the likes of Willie Idlette, Ricardo Lenhart, Harry Lewis, and Maurice Douse. This combination has resulted into one of the most electrifying offenses in the league. The next home game for the Monsters is this Friday, April 1 as they take on the Huntington Hammer at The Bank of Kentucky Center.
Tickets are on sale now, so come out and support the River Monsters!
This past weekend, The Bank of Kentucky Center was also home to Professional Bull Riders.
